A New Space
I had a blog built with Hugo before. But the limitations of the theme system, the difficulty of customizing things the way I wanted, and being restricted to a fixed set of features all started to feel frustrating. On top of that, AI agents have come a long way, and the amount of effort it takes to build a simple site has dropped significantly — so I decided to build this one myself.
There’s a lot I want to say about AI too, but for this post I’ll focus on the direction of the blog.
I’d built a Hugo blog before, back when I had just joined the company as a junior developer. Looking back, I think I felt some pressure to organize and document my knowledge. That’s just my nature, but blogs built that way don’t tend to last.
In contrast, I had a casual Tistory blog during university. Back then, whenever something came to mind — short or long — I’d write it up and post it regularly. I eventually got lazy and stopped, but writing freely, letting my thoughts lead, felt more like my style. That’s what I think a blog should be.
So this new blog is meant to be a space where I can organize my thoughts however I want. It probably won’t look much like a typical tech blog.
What I’ll Write About
There are two sections: essays and reviews.
Essays will be a space to freely sort through things I’ve noticed in everyday life — things that felt unreasonable, things that made sense, things I learned, things I want to try, or just ordinary moments.
Reviews are a section I’ve especially wanted to make. I haven’t read much in the past few years, but over the course of my life I’ve read a lot of books and watched a lot of dramas, anime, and films. I tend to engage with them seriously rather than just passively consuming them — but without a place to record my thoughts, I’ve been feeling those memories slowly fade. I want to address that as soon as possible, so the reviews section is where I plan to write as often as I can.
On the Tech Stack
The stack for this blog is Bun + Astro + TailwindCSS + Cloudflare Pages. There was originally a learning angle to this project, but with how fast AI has been moving, I honestly don’t know how much I’ll actually study the underlying tech. That said, I don’t think it’s okay to not understand something I built myself — so I’m going to try to learn along the way, even while using AI to build it. Whether that’ll work out, I’m not sure…
